Community Effort Brings Holiday Joy to Hundreds of Local Seniors Through SARCOA Program

This holiday season, hundreds of seniors across southeast Alabama experienced a week filled with joy and connection, thanks to the Southern Alabama Regional Council on Aging’s (SARCOA) “Santa for Seniors” program.
The initiative, which began with simple wishlists, transformed into heartfelt reminders that the community cares, ensuring seniors who might have otherwise gone without gifts or visitors felt remembered and valued.
The success of the program was the result of a broad community effort, according to SARCOA officials. Sponsors, donors, and volunteers contributed at every stage—from shopping and wrapping gifts to sorting, organizing, and delivering them. Organizers emphasized that every act of kindness played a vital role in bringing the program to life.
“Santa for Seniors is more than a program,” SARCOA officials said. “It shows the incredible impact a compassionate community can have when people come together to support one another.”
The program not only delivered gifts but also provided seniors with a powerful message of care and connection, highlighting the difference a united community can make.
SARCOA serves as the Area Agency on Aging for Barbour, Coffee, Covington, Dale, Geneva, Henry, and Houston counties. The organization is dedicated to improving the lives of the region’s growing senior population by planning, coordinating, and developing community-based services. As the regional focal point for senior services, SARCOA works every day to enhance independence, quality of life, and support for older adults across southeast Alabama.
