The Daleville High School varsity girls basketball team came up short at home Tuesday night, falling 54-40 to Slocomb High School despite a standout performance from the Lady Warhawks’ Kiani Schmitz.
Schmitz delivered an exceptional offensive effort for Daleville, pouring in 33 of the team’s 40 points while also recording four steals. The performance kept the Lady Warhawks within striking distance throughout much of the contest, but Slocomb’s balanced scoring and defensive pressure proved to be the difference down the stretch.
Aaniyah Collins also contributed in multiple facets for Daleville High School, finishing the night with five steals and five rebounds, providing energy on both ends of the floor.
Despite the loss, Daleville showed flashes of resilience and hustle, particularly on defense, forcing turnovers and competing through all four quarters. The team will look to build on those positives as it prepares for its next matchup. Daleville takes on Pike County on the road Friday at 5:30 p.m.
