ENTERPRISE—On Wednesday afternoon, officials with the Enterprise Police Department, Coffee County District Attorney’s Office, and the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office held a joint press conference to provide updates on the search for missing toddler Genesis Reid.
Enterprise Police Chief Michael Moore stated a large-scale search effort for Genesis Reid is expected to ramp up in the coming days, as investigators prepare for an extensive operation at a local landfill.
During a recent update, Enterprise Police Department officials confirmed that the landfill search had not yet begun as they were in a comprehensive planning stage. Moore informed the public that crews could begin searching for the child’s remains as early as next week, with the process potentially lasting several weeks due to the complexity of the site. They estimate it will take up to nine weeks.
“This will be a physically, emotionally, and mentally demanding search that may extend for several weeks,” Moore said.
Moore added that investigators have been working with the sanitation department and multiple law enforcement agencies to develop “a comprehensive plan” to search the landfill, adding that they will be required to excavate large amounts of material from the landfill, transport it to another location, and begin searching for the child’s remains and other evidence.
The case, which has gripped the Wiregrass region for months and has made national headlines, centers on the disappearance of 2-year-old Genesis Reid, who was reported missing by her mother, Adrienne Reid, in February. Investigators later determined through witness statements that the child had not been seen for several weeks before that report, raising immediate concerns about the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
Officials have since alleged that the child’s mother is responsible for her death. She now faces charges including capital murder and abuse of a corpse, according to previous statements from law enforcement and prosecutors.
Authorities believe Genesis may have been placed in a dumpster and ultimately transported to a landfill, prompting the need for a highly coordinated and methodical search effort. The operation is expected to involve dozens of personnel and law enforcement agencies and could take up to several weeks to complete, depending on conditions and findings.
Investigators have emphasized that landfill searches are particularly difficult, requiring careful excavation and sorting of debris in a controlled manner. Law enforcement agencies from across the region and beyond have been involved in the case, reflecting both its complexity and its emotional impact on the community.
Since the beginning of the investigation, officials have maintained that locating Genesis remains the top priority.
“Our mission remains clear, to locate Genesis and bring her home,” officials said during the update.
The case has drawn widespread attention across southeast Alabama, with community members continuing to follow developments closely and express support for efforts to find answers.
Reid was officially indicted on the charges just over a week ago as her court appearance was cancelled and sources with the District Attorney’s office revealed the indictments.
Authorities continue to ask anyone with information related to the case to contact the Enterprise Police Department. However, during a press conference, the Enterprise Police Chief asked that people not authorized by the department stay away from the search site to avoid contaminating evidence and hindering the investigation.
