DOTHAN, Ala.—Additional law enforcement officers are being deployed to three Dothan schools as officials investigate online rumors of potential violence circulating in the community, Dothan City Schools announced Sunday night.
The increased security affects Dothan 6th Grade Center, Dothan High School, and Carver 9th Grade Academy.
School officials said they are taking the rumors seriously, prompting the district to work with local law enforcement. At the same time, investigators are determining where the information originated and whether it poses a credible threat.
Additional School Resource Officers will be present at all three campuses as a precaution.
The district said the safety of students, faculty, and staff remains its highest priority and urged anyone with information about the rumors to contact their school or local law enforcement.
Officials have not released additional details about the specific content of the rumors or indicated that an actual act of violence has been confirmed.
