Ozark Police Chief Michael Bryan confirmed today that the department is investigating a shots-fired incident that left a parked vehicle damaged on Don Avenue.
The Dale County Chronicle received a tip and video clip from a resident who lives in the neighborhood, and we immediately began investigating the matter and collecting what little information available to us at this time.
“I heard a bunch of shots go off in quick succession, pow, pow, pow, pow, pow…” described one resident who lives in the neighborhood adjacent to Don Avenue. This is the resident who first alerted the Chronicle to the incident through our anonymous tip line. She described a heavy police presence on Don Avenue, and her description is what led us to look into the matter.
According to Chief Bryan, the call originated when a law enforcement officer on routine patrol heard multiple gunshots nearby and reported it to dispatch.
“The only casualty was private property consisting of a vehicle that received damages in the form of a stray bullet hole,” Bryan said. The vehicle was unoccupied at the time and parked along the 100 block of Don Avenue, Chief Bryan added.
The Ozark Criminal Investigation Unit is actively working the case. “Leads are being sought, and the case is ongoing,” Bryan added. He also confirmed that public safety is the department’s top priority as the investigation continues. No further information has been released.
