Sneak Peek: Flowers Center to Showcase More Local Talent with Upcoming Productions; “Home Run” Proved the Skill and Success of Local Original Productions

The Flowers Center for the Performing Arts recently had major-league style success with “Home Run,” a show that featured Dale County’s history with baseball and Eagle Stadium. Written by recent Carroll High graduate, Joshua Harding, the show demonstrated that local talent can pack the house.
The Flowers Center will continue celebrating its ties to the community with a lineup of productions written and performed by local talent, including several Carroll High School (CHS) alumni.
Building on the “Home Run” momentum, the stage is set for two more original productions crafted by former students.
In November, audiences can enjoy “Son of a Son of a Sailor Man,” an original play about Jimmy Buffett written by CHS alumni Shawn Shirley and Drew Kelley. The show is scheduled for November 14–15.
Next, “Patty Sings Patsy” will spotlight the music of country legend Patsy Cline. The production, created by CHS graduate Patty Mosley Nelson, is set for December 6.
Looking ahead to 2026, Dale County and Ozark City Schools will team up to present the crowd-pleasing musical “Sister Act” in February. *For those interested in participating in the “Sister Act” production, there will be an important meeting held on September 22, at 6:00 p.m. Be sure to attend if you wish to participate in this classic production!
Organizers say all proceeds from these events will go directly to supporting the Flowers Center.
“We’re so fortunate to have such talented former students return to contribute original productions and keep the arts thriving in our community,” veteran director Margie Benson noted in an announcement.
