The Ozark Dale County Library (ODC Library) is welcoming the new year with a full slate of programs and events that truly offer something for everyone. Educational, creative, and fun recreational opportunities await residents of all ages.
The month begins with a special Library Open House on Saturday, Jan. 2, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the Bay Meeting Room. This event was set up to allow community members to meet the library staff, learn about the free programs offered, and ask any questions. Community members are encouraged to attend so they can ask questions and learn more about how the library selects materials, plans programs, and serves the public. Refreshments will be provided. This will also be the perfect time to get your free library card if yours has been misplaced or you have never had one. The library card is a key that unlocks a world of information, fun, and much more.
Of course, the library is known for books, but did you know the ODC Library also offers access to tens of thousands of ebooks, audiobooks, and more through the Libby App? All you need is your free library card to unlock access to this amazing library app from anywhere. But there is even more great things happening at that library.
Creative minds can take part in a Craft Swap on Saturday, Jan. 17, from 2 to 5 p.m., where participants are encouraged to bring extra craft supplies to trade or share.
Those interested in learning lifesaving skills can also register for a free CPR, First Aid, and AED class on Saturday, Jan. 31, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The class will be led by paramedic Joseph H. Wood, Ed.D, NRP, and is limited to eight participants, with advance registration required. You must contact the library to reserve your spot. Wood will also be offering the option for Heartsaver CPR/AED/First Aid certification.
Weekly and recurring programs return throughout the month, including “Game On! @ the Library” every Friday afternoon, basic computer classes on Saturdays, and Story Time sessions for children. The library will also host a variety of clubs and groups, including the Dale County Book Club, Tween Art Club, Lego Club, Knights of the Wiregrass Chess Club, Twisted Stitches crafting group, and the Curiosity Crew science program for young learners.
Teen programming continues with Prose & Cons Teen Media Club, Drawn Together Teen Art Hour, and weekly Dungeons & Dragons sessions held during Game On! Fridays. Homeschool families are invited to attend a Homeschool Hangout on Jan. 8, which will include educational resources, social activities, and lunch provided by the library. Toddler Tales will also be offered that evening as an alternative to daytime story time.
Additional educational opportunities include a Social Security and Medicare 101 seminar on Jan. 13, providing guidance on retirement planning, benefits, and healthcare options. Community members are also encouraged to attend meetings of the Friends of the Ozark Dale County Library and the Library’s Board of Trustees later in the month.
The library will be closed for the Christmas and New Year holiday through Jan. 1, with all programs canceled during that time. Regular operating hours resume January 2. The library’s normal hours of operation are Tuesday & Thursday: 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.; Wednesday: 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; Friday & Saturday: 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.; Sunday & Monday: Closed.
The library is located at 296 N Union Ave. in the Piggly Wiggly Shopping Center.
