On June 1, 2026, Southern Dog Mission was called to assist with a large-scale animal welfare case in Level Plains. Working alongside local agencies and rescue partners, the organization stepped in to provide immediate care and safety for dogs in desperate need of help.
Southern Dog Mission took in nine dogs from the case. While they are now safe, their journey to recovery is far from over.
According to publicly released information from authorities, many of the dogs came from severely neglected conditions. Since entering rescue care, however, their lives have begun to change.
While removing animals from dangerous situations is a critical first step, the work continues long afterward. Veterinary care, nutrition, rehabilitation, and daily support create significant ongoing expenses.
Of the nine dogs currently in Southern Dog Mission’s care:
• Seven require spay/neuter surgeries
• Two require dental procedures
• All need continued veterinary care, vaccinations, food, medications, parasite prevention, and daily support
Despite the challenges ahead, the dogs have already made remarkable progress.
When they entered rescue on June 1:
• Cash weighed just 9.8 pounds. Today he weighs 20.6 pounds.
• Dizzy weighed 22 pounds. Today she weighs 39 pounds.
• Miracle weighed 12 pounds. Today she weighs 20 pounds.
Those gains represent far more than numbers on a scale. They reflect healing, proper nutrition, medical care, safety, and love.
Cash has more than doubled his body weight, while Dizzy and Miracle continue to grow stronger every day. These dogs are learning what it means to have full bellies, comfortable beds, and people who care for them.
Recovery, however, is still ongoing, and the veterinary needs ahead remain substantial.
Southern Dog Mission is asking the community to help provide:
• Spay and neuter surgeries for seven dogs
• Dental procedures for two dogs
• Veterinary care and medical treatment
• Food, medications, and daily supplies
• Safe housing and continued rehabilitation
No amount is too small. Every donation helps move these dogs one step closer to healthy, happy futures.
These nine dogs are safe today because people chose to act. Their future now depends on the continued support of those willing to help them heal.
