The Alabama Community College System recognized 48 of its highest-achieving students Friday during the 31st Annual All-Alabama Academic Team Recognition Program, awarding a combined $61,350 in scholarships.
The ceremony, held at the Embassy Suites Birmingham-Hoover, honored two students from each of the state’s community colleges for their academic performance, leadership, and service.
“These students recognized today are the cream of the crop, epitomizing excellence and strong leadership,” ACCS Chancellor Jimmy Baker said. “These students expect and deliver the high standards the ACCS is known for.”
The All-Alabama Academic Team program is sponsored by the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and the American Association of Community Colleges. Students are selected based on academic achievement, intellectual rigor, leadership, and their commitment to using education to positively impact their communities.
Each honoree received a $1,000 scholarship funded by the Paths for Success Foundation, which can be used at any public or private college. In addition, seven students were awarded an extra $1,300 scholarship as part of the Coca-Cola Academic Team.
Two students received top statewide honors. Rebekah Burton of Central Alabama Community College earned the New Century Transfer Pathway Scholarship, receiving $2,750. Destiny Medinus of Trenholm State Community College was awarded the New Century Workforce Pathway Scholarship, totaling $1,500.
Local students were among those recognized, including Zoe Isabella Biddle and Bryce Griffin of Enterprise State Community College, along with Kaylee Vaughn and Nashunni Williams of Wallace Community College-Dothan.
The full list of honorees includes representatives from all 24 institutions within the Alabama Community College System, highlighting student achievement across the state.
Officials said the annual recognition program continues to showcase the academic excellence and leadership development taking place throughout Alabama’s community college system.
