Suspect Captured in Charlie Kirk Assassination, Trump Confirms

The man accused in the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk has been taken into custody, President Donald Trump confirmed Friday, calling it a major development in the high-profile case that has heightened concerns over political violence in the United States.
“With a high degree of certainty, we have him,” Trump said during a live interview on Fox News, noting that a minister working with law enforcement helped turn the suspect in. “Somebody that was very close to him said, ‘Hmm, that’s him,’” he added.
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said the suspect had previously told a family friend that he was connected to the shooting. Cox, a Republican, added that the man had become increasingly political and strongly opposed Kirk’s views.
A law enforcement official, speaking to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity, identified the suspect as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson of Utah. The official was not authorized to discuss the ongoing investigation publicly.
The Dale County Chronicle has reached out to the FBI seeking details on where Robinson is being held and whether he has obtained legal counsel, but those requests have not yet been returned.

Leaders from both parties, including former Presidents Donald Trump and Barack Obama, Vice President Kamala Harris, and numerous governors and lawmakers, denounced the attack and called for unity against political violence. Tributes also poured in from allies, with Trump ordering flags lowered to half-staff and calling Kirk “loved and admired by all.” The tragedy has intensified concerns about a rising wave of politically motivated attacks across the country.
