BARBOUR COUNTY—A 17-year-old has been charged with capital murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a 13-year-old on Friday in Clayton.
According to officials, the shooting took place near the 400 block of Westfield Court in Clayton, Alabama. Officials report that officers who responded to the scene found a 13-year-old juvenile who had been shot. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigators later identified a 17-year-old juvenile as the suspect. The teen was taken into custody, charged with capital murder, and booked into the Barbour County Jail.
At the request of Clayton Police Chief Ed Hardy and the Clayton Police Department, Special Agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigation were called in to conduct a homicide investigation.
Since both the victim and suspect are minors, their identities have not been released. Authorities say that the investigation remains ongoing. Once completed, the case will then be turned over to the Barbour County District Attorney’s Office for review.
