DOTHAN — A juvenile has been charged as an adult after another teenager was shot Wednesday evening while the pair was reportedly recording an amateur music video inside a Dothan residence.
According to the Dothan Police Department, officers responded at approximately 6:30 p.m. on June 24 to a report of a person shot inside a home in the 400 block of Donna Drive. Upon arrival, officers found a juvenile victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Police immediately rendered emergency medical aid until Dothan Fire Department medics arrived and assumed treatment. The victim was transported to a local hospital and is expected to be transferred to another medical facility for additional care. Authorities said the injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Initial reports indicated the shooting occurred in the Donna Drive area and that a suspect had fled the scene on foot. Officers launched a search of the surrounding neighborhood while investigators worked to gather evidence and determine what had occurred.
As the investigation unfolded, detectives learned that the victim and another juvenile were allegedly filming an amateur music video inside the residence. Investigators determined a real firearm, loaded with live ammunition, was being used as a prop during the recording.
According to police, the firearm was discharged during the filming, striking the victim in the chest. The suspect then fled the residence following the shooting.
Law enforcement officers later located the suspect at an apartment complex on South Ussery Street. The juvenile was taken into custody without incident.
Police said the suspect has been charged as an adult with Assault First Degree and was booked into jail. Because both individuals involved are juveniles, authorities said Alabama privacy laws prevent the release of additional identifying information.
The investigation remains ongoing.
