MIDLAND CITY — The City of Midland City and the towns of Grimes and Newton joined together Wednesday to present a combined $7,500 contribution to Dale County High School, providing financial support for educational programs, student activities, and enrichment opportunities.
The presentation was held June 3 in the Midland City Council Chambers after Dale County Commissioner Adam Enfinger requested that the municipalities consider supporting the county school system.
According to Midland City Mayor JoAnn Bennett-Grimsley, local leaders recognized the importance of investing in local students and quickly agreed to support the effort.
“Investing in education is one of the most meaningful ways to strengthen our community and support future leaders,” Bennett-Grimsley said.
Each municipality contributed $2,500, bringing the total donation to $7,500. The funds are intended to support educational programs, student activities, and enrichment opportunities at Dale County High School.
Attending the presentation were Grimes Mayor Tommy Blackmon and his wife, Jeanette Blackmon; Newton Mayor Bill Pruitt; Midland City Mayor JoAnn Bennett-Grimsley; Newton Town Council member Carla Enfinger; Midland City Council member Cindi Pittman; municipal employees; and other guests from the communities of Midland City and Newton.
Representing Dale County High School at the event was head football coach Will Garner, who accepted the donations on behalf of the school.
Mayor Bennett-Grimsley said the contributions demonstrate the commitment of local governments to supporting education and helping students succeed both inside and outside the classroom.
“We hope in some way these funds will help provide resources that enhance, encourage achievement, and create opportunities for students to succeed,” Bennett-Grimsley said.
Grimes Mayor Tommy Blackmon said, “This donation is about more than equipment. It is about investing in young people who are learning the values of teamwork, leadership, responsibility, and perseverance. The lessons you learn on the football field will serve you long after the final whistle blows.”
The presentation highlighted the partnership between local governments and Dale County Schools as community leaders continue working together to invest in educational opportunities and student success throughout the region.
The donation comes as local officials across Dale County continue seeking ways to support schools and provide resources that benefit students, teachers, and extracurricular programs. Community leaders said investments in education help strengthen the county’s future by creating opportunities for the next generation of leaders.
