Calling all theatre lovers! Tickets are on sale now for Wish Upon A Star Performing Arts Co.’s production of “Into the Woods Jr.,” a musical featuring a cast of young performers from across the Wiregrass. The show will premiere at the historic Flowers Center for the Performing Arts in Ozark on Friday, June 19, at 6:30 p.m.
The production is the culmination of the organization’s annual summer theater program at the Flowers Center. Students in first through eighth grades have spent a great deal of time and effort preparing the show, which brings together beloved fairy-tale characters in a magical story filled with adventure, humor, and memorable songs.
Veteran theatre director Margie Benson described the show as great for people of all ages and pointed out that it is based on the award-winning musical by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine.
“This is a delightful production for people of all ages. It includes stories about Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Rapunzel, Jack and the Beanstalk, and, of course, the Big Bad Wolf,” Benson said.
The show explores these characters and their journeys, and, along the way, they discover that wishes often come with unexpected consequences and learn valuable lessons about responsibility, family, and community.
The performances are scheduled for Friday, June 19, and Saturday, June 20, at 6:30 p.m. at the Flowers Center for the Performing Arts. Organizers expect strong community interest in the production and encourage theatergoers to purchase tickets early.
Wish Upon A Star Performing Arts Co., under the leadership of Benson, has built a reputation for providing high-quality youth theatre experiences while giving local students opportunities to develop their talents in acting, singing, and stage performance. The annual summer production has become a popular tradition for both participants and audiences throughout the Wiregrass.
