(OZARK, Ala.) —Tickets are now available for the upcoming production of “Sister Act,” set to take the stage later this month at the Flowers Center for the Performing Arts.
Tickets went on sale Tuesday, January 13, and are priced at $15, plus a convenience fee for credit card transactions. Tickets may be purchased online or in person at Flowers on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Performances are scheduled for February 26–28, with each show beginning at 7:00 p.m.
The cast features students from Dale County and Ozark City Schools, supported by a dedicated team of adult mentors guiding the high school production.
The Dale County Chronicle caught up with Brenda Shirley, who is assisting with the production, to learn more about the show and what has been going on with the Flowers Center.
“We have a team of adults taking the reins for the high school shows, and we are under new direction with Megan Hobson as the director.”
Shirley noted that Hobson is assisted by Michelle Kelley, who is the music director, Mackenzie Taylor, Drew Kelley, and Shirley herself, all of whom are former students of the theater program.
“All of us are former students of the theater program, so it’s really special to come back and help guide the next generation,” Shirley said.
Beyond rehearsals and performances, Shirley said the students have also emphasized community involvement throughout the year as a way to give back for the support they receive.
“The students have had a focus on community outreach this year,” she said. “They want to give back to the community as a way to say thank you for the support.”
As part of that outreach, the cast delivered Christmas cheer in the form of cookies and Christmas carols to downtown businesses during the holiday season. They have also installed a blessing box in front of the Flowers Center and continue to collect items to keep it stocked.
With weeks of preparation behind them, organizers say the students are working hard and having a great time as they prepare for opening night. Community members are encouraged to attend and support the young performers as well as the Flowers Center.
The Flowers Center has had a busy schedule recently. Most recently, audiences were treated to “Patty Sings Patsy,” a show in which Patty Mosley Nelson performed many of Patsy Cline’s top hits, as well as hits from some of Broadway’s top shows. Organizers say the show was well-attended.
For those looking for a fun night out while supporting local performing arts, “Sister Act” is definitely a show worth seeing. Even if you have already seen the film or the show on Broadway, you will not want to miss the Flowers Center production. It promises to entertain and provide “all the feels.”
