GENEVA COUNTY, Ala. — January 25, 2026 — An apparent tornado moved through parts of Geneva County on Sunday, causing damage in the downtown Geneva area and in several surrounding communities.
Local law enforcement and emergency officials confirmed that a tornado is believed to have touched down, resulting in downed trees, scattered debris, and damage to some structures. Initial assessments indicate the majority of the damage ranges from minor to moderate, though officials say evaluations are still ongoing.
Geneva County Sheriff Tony Helms said authorities received multiple reports of storm damage, including in the Eunola community along Highway 52. Deputies and emergency personnel continued surveying impacted areas throughout the afternoon to identify additional damage and ensure public safety.
Geneva Police Chief Pepper Mock said officers were conducting on-foot assessments in affected neighborhoods to determine the extent of damage and to check for any residents in need of assistance.
Several county roads were temporarily obstructed by fallen trees and debris. Public works and utility crews were dispatched to clear roadways and inspect power lines, as well as other infrastructure. As of Sunday evening, no major traffic disruptions had been reported.
Officials confirmed that no serious injuries or fatalities have been reported at this time. Emergency management officials urged residents to remain weather-aware as unstable conditions could continue into the evening hours.
