TROY—A Troy City Schools employee has been arrested following allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a student, according to the Pike County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said Anthonio Brundidge, 43, of Goshen, was taken into custody April 19 at his residence. He has been charged with one count of a school employee engaging in a sex act with a student.
The arrest followed a report received by investigators regarding what officials described as an inappropriate relationship between Brundidge and a female student at Charles Henderson High School. Law enforcement has not released the student’s identity due to her age.
According to officials, Brundidge had been employed with Troy City Schools for about two years. During that time, he served in multiple roles, including as an in-school suspension coordinator, as well as an assistant football and assistant baseball coach.
Pike County Sheriff Russell Thomas emphasized the seriousness of the charge in a statement released by the agency.
“Cases involving the exploitation of minors are among the most serious offenses we investigate,” Thomas said. “The Pike County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to protecting our children and ensuring that those who violate the law are held fully accountable.”
Thomas also acknowledged the assistance of the Pike County District Attorney’s Office in the investigation.
Troy City Schools Superintendent Cynthia G. Thomas issued a statement on Monday morning acknowledging the controversy. “Troy City Schools is aware of allegations involving a member of our coaching staff. WE take these matters extremely seriously, as the safety and well-being of our students are our highest priorities. Law enforcement has been notified, and we are cooperating fully.”
Superintendent Thomas went on to say that Brundidge had been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation and related charges.
School officials said no further details will be released at this time due to the sensitive nature of the case and to protect the juvenile involved.
