The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) announced that the eastbound bridge over the Choctawhatchee River on US-84 in Daleville will temporarily close beginning Monday, October 6. The two-week closure will allow contractors to perform essential maintenance on the bridge deck as part of an ongoing rehabilitation effort.
This project, identified as BR-0012(585), involves the use of hydrodemolition—also known as hydroblasting—a specialized method for removing deteriorated concrete safely and efficiently. While the eastbound bridge will be closed, westbound US-84 will remain open to traffic. A signed detour will guide motorists along SR-85 and SR-92 during the closure, and once the bridge reopens, occasional lane closures are expected to continue.
Valued at approximately $900,000, the project was awarded to Comanche Construction of Georgia, LLC, based in Marietta, Georgia, which submitted the lowest qualified bid. ALDOT previously accepted public input on the project last summer.
ALDOT is reminding drivers to follow posted speed limits and use caution when traveling through the work zone, as workers and equipment will be present. Temporary message boards have been placed to alert motorists about the construction and detour.
