WICKSBURG — The Wicksburg varsity boys basketball team left little doubt from the opening tip Friday night, using relentless pace and transition offense to overwhelm Slocomb 59–27 and secure a spot in the area championship game.
The Panthers exploded out of the gate, turning defensive stops into fast-break opportunities and building a commanding 16–5 lead by the end of the first quarter. That tempo never let up. Wicksburg continued to push the ball and apply pressure on both ends of the floor, extending the advantage to 32–10 by halftime.
Any hopes of a Slocomb comeback were erased early in the third quarter as the Panthers delivered their most decisive stretch of the night. Wicksburg poured in 24 points in the period, stretching the margin to 56–19 and effectively putting the game out of reach before the final eight minutes.
Wicksburg capped the night with a 59–27 victory, another complete performance that showcased the Panthers’ depth, speed, and ability to control the tempo from start to finish.
With the win, the Panthers advance to the area championship game, where they will host Houston Academy on Tuesday, February 10, at 6 p.m. in Wicksburg.
