The Wicksburg Panthers maintained control from start to finish Friday night, earning a 55–48 win over the Daleville Warhawks in a competitive matchup that kept fans on edge and showed the strength and skill of both teams.
Wicksburg opened the game with authority, jumping out to an 11–2 lead in the first period behind efficient scoring and tight defensive pressure. Daleville regrouped in the second quarter, gradually eating away at the Panthers’ lead, with the score 28–21 at halftime.
The Warhawks continued to battle in the third, but Wicksburg held firm, stretching its lead to 43–35 entering the final period. Daleville managed to close the gap at times in the fourth, but the Panthers made timely baskets and held on to secure the seven-point victory.
Wicksburg’s Jamien Ward delivered a standout showing, pouring in a game-high 25 points to pace the Panthers’ offense.
For Daleville, Ja’veon McLeod turned in an impressive all-around effort with 19 points, 8 steals, and 3 rebounds. MJ Flowers added 12 points and 4 rebounds, giving the Warhawks a steady presence throughout the night.
Despite Daleville’s late push, the early Wicksburg lead proved too much to overcome as the Panthers closed out the game for a solid home-court win.
After the game, Daleville Assistant Basketball Coach Jaren Jones said the team did great but will be working on taking on defense and tightening up on executing offense.
