FORT RUCKER—The Wiregrass Rugby Club Flyers will return to the pitch this Saturday, January 31, for a key home matchup against the New Orleans Rugby Football Club as the season continues to take shape.
The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. kickoff at the Wiregrass Flyers Rugby Field on Fort Rucker and marks the Flyers’ fourth Matrix Competition contest of the season. Entering the weekend, Wiregrass holds a 2–1 record and is looking to build momentum and even the standings as conference play intensifies.
Club officials say the Flyers are eager to capitalize on home-field advantage against a competitive New Orleans side that has long been a physical and disciplined opponent in regional play. Saturday’s match is expected to be a strong test as the Flyers continue to settle into the rhythm of the season.
Admission to the match is free, and the Wiregrass Rugby Club is inviting the community to come out and support the Flyers. Small concessions will be available at the field.
Because the match is being held on Fort Rucker, spectators should be aware of base access requirements. All visitors must enter through a designated gate and present a valid government-issued photo ID. Visitors without a Department of Defense ID may be required to obtain a visitor pass and comply with standard base security procedures. Attendees are encouraged to allow extra time for entry.
In addition to Saturday’s match, the Wiregrass Rugby Club announced it is actively accepting new players interested in joining the team. No prior rugby experience is required, and players of all skill levels are welcome. Those interested in learning more about joining the Flyers are encouraged to attend the match and speak with team members or staff following the game.
Saturday’s contest provides another opportunity for local fans to experience rugby firsthand while supporting a growing sport in the Wiregrass.
