LEVEL PLAINS–Some may think this is an April Fools post, but for the Level Plains Police Department and the woman behind bars, it certainly proves it is no laughing matter.
A 47-year-old woman is facing multiple charges after authorities say she stole a police cruiser shortly after being taken into custody, leading officers on a brief pursuit that ended in Enterprise.
According to Level Plains Police Chief John Summers, officers initially arrested Angela Nicole Sizemore on a theft charge and placed her in the back of a patrol vehicle. While secured, Sizemore was able to free herself from her restraints and move into the driver’s seat, driving away in the cruiser.
Law enforcement officers quickly responded and began pursuing the stolen vehicle. The chase continued into Enterprise, where officers ultimately stopped Sizemore using a PIT maneuver near a local Walmart, bringing the situation to an end.
Police say Sizemore was taken back into custody following a confrontation during which she was subdued with a Taser. Authorities reported no injuries as a result of the incident, though the patrol vehicle sustained minor damage.
Sizemore now faces several charges, including eluding law enforcement, theft, and providing a false name to officers.
Chief Summers credited assisting agencies for their role in safely resolving the situation and preventing injuries.
